The first step to being prepared is realizing that severe weather can happen at any time—and it can happen to you.
Each year, Americans cope with an average of:
- 10,000 thunderstorms
- 1,500 floods
- 1,000 tornadoes
- 6 deadly hurricanes
In North Central Texas, from 1996 to 2005:
- 9 tornadoes per year
- 207 severe thunderstorm events (large hail, damaging winds) per year
- 53 flash flood events per year
